And so I recommend watching Love Actually (2003), which takes place in London over the month leading up to Christmas. It is hands down one of my all-time favorite movies, and a MUST during Christmastime. Starring an ensemble cast including Alan Rickman, Keira Knightly, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, and Laura Linney, the film takes a look at the different shapes love takes. It follows eight incredibly different couples whose lives interconnect in different ways at the holidays. You have a recently widowed man and his love-struck 10 year old stepson, a scorned wife and her cheating husband, a man and his maid who fall in love despite the complete language barrier, unrequited love, pure lust, platonic love, the love between siblings, etc. It’s pure magic and it’s guaranteed to make you tear up from joy or sadness, unless you’re the Grinch himself!
